Passport

Station 1

Philippians 3:20-21

Our citizenship is in Heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there…

The various forms of suffering that our Savior endured during His Passion were endured for you. They represent your ticket or passport to freedom. He was betrayed, arrested, bound, beaten, falsely accused, hypocritically condemned, mocked, spat upon, whipped, publicly humiliated, forced to carry His execution device through the streets of Jerusalem, pierced with nails through His hands and feet, and forced to die in slow motion through excruciating pain. He spent six lonely hours on the cross to purchase your forgiveness and passport to Heaven. Matthew 27:46 says, “About three in the afternoon Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” Passports to Heaven are costly!

When you trust in Christ and what He did for you during His Passion, God adopts you into His forever family. You may not always FEEL this fact, but it is nonetheless very real. The believer’s identity changes before God and Your Creator immediately grants you citizenship in Heaven. You may continue to live on earth for a while, but all true believers in Christ now have a passport to eternity. So print out a passport and add your name to it.  Carry it with you as a reminder of where your true, eternal citizenship now lies.

Spend a few minutes in prayer and think about how your behavior on earth reflects your faith in Christ. Do your daily actions reflect your heavenly citizenship? Ask the Lord to help you live out your Heavenly citizenship during your brief sojourn on earth. Pray for His sustaining grace along your journey.
