The Passion of Jesus Christ

Station 6

1 Peter 1:18-19 - It was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your ancestors, but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect.

In order for our passport to Heaven to be validated, a very high price had to be paid. Jesus paid this price when He sacrificed Himself on the cross for our sins. Our hope is that these Passion symbols will assist you in better understanding the pain and shame Christ had to endure so that you might reconnect with God through faith and become a true citizen of Heaven.

Start with imagining the feeling of soft purple cloth. Purple is the color of royalty. This robe of majesty is what Christ could have chosen. Soft and smooth. Keep this feeling in mind as you now take time to touch, taste, and experience in some small part what Christ endured for you.  Christ set aside the purple robes of majesty for these things. He did it so you might share in His glory.  Take time before each object lesson of this station to thank Jesus for enduring the pain that these items represent. Fully appreciate what Jesus Christ did for YOU!

Matthew 27:25-26 - All the people answered, "Let his blood be on us and on our children!" Then he released Barabbas to them. But he had Jesus flogged, and handed him over to be crucified.

Roman floggings were so brutal that sometimes the victim died before crucifixion.

Matthew 27:29-30 - ...and then twisted together a crown of thorns and set it on his head. They put a staff in his right hand and knelt in front of him and mocked him. "Hail, king of the Jews!" they said. They spit on him, and took the staff and struck him on the head again and again.

Imagine the feeling of the crown of thorns digging into your scalp as they struck you in the head again and again.

John 19:16b-18 - So the soldiers took charge of Jesus. Carrying his own cross, he went out to the place of the Skull (which in Aramaic is called Golgotha). Here they crucified him, and with him two others - one on each side and Jesus in the middle.

Take time to think of the cross and thank Jesus for taking all of your sins upon him.

Acts 2:23 - This man was handed over to you by God's set purpose and foreknowledge; and you, with the help of wicked men, put him to death by nailing him to the cross.

Imagine the nail against your palm, driving all the way through your hand.

John 19:28-30 - Later, knowing that all was now completed, and so that the Scripture would be fulfilled, Jesus said, "I am thirsty." A jar of wine vinegar was there, so they soaked a sponge in it, put the sponge on a stalk of the hyssop plant, and lifted it to Jesus' lips. When he had received the drink, Jesus said, "It is finished." With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.

If you have prepared any vinegar, touch some to your lips. Imagine being thirsty and this is all that was offered to you to drink.
