Elder Appointee
Samuel Nandakumar
Samuel Nandakumar came to faith from a Hindu background when he was a senior in college. He served as a Global Outreach/Lead Pastor at Crossroads Bible Church in San Jose, California, for 20 years before his retirement from the pastoral ministry. Before that, he also served as an associate pastor at First Baptist Church (now called Church on the Hill) in San Jose for 12 years.
Samuel and his wife, Liz, have three adult children, and two grandchildren. They became members of Creekside three years ago and lead a LifeGroup that meets in their home. Liz also serves in the search committee for the Senior Pastor.
Samuel has had the privilege of preaching several times here at Creekside. His passion and desire is to shepherd and serve people and using his 30 plus years of pastoral ministry experience to help train pastors and Christian leaders. He is passionate about global missions, and his desire is to see Creekside members become global Christians, with global vision, for we serve a Global God.
His favorite verse is 2 Corinthians 3:18 - And we all, with unveiled faces, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.
Elder Qualifications, Duties & Responsibilities
As Described in our Constitution
Qualifications
An Elder must be a member of Creekside Christian Church in good standing for at least two years and must aspire to meet the qualifications of an Elder as found in 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:6-9. These passages read, “It is a trustworthy statement; if any man aspires to the office of overseer, it is a fine work he desires to do. An overseer, then, must be above reproach, the husband of one wife, temperate, prudent, respectable, hospitable, able to teach, not addicted to wine or pugnacious, but gentle, uncontentious, free from the love of money. He must be one who manages his own household well, keeping his children under control with all dignity (but if a man does not know how to manage his own household well, how will he take care of the church of God?) and not a new convert, lest he become conceited and fall into the condemnation incurred by the devil. And he must have a good reputation with those outside the church, so that he may not fall into reproach and the snare of the devil.” (1 Tim 3:1-7) “..if any man be above reproach, the husband of one wife, having children who believe, not accused of dissipation or rebellion. For the overseer must be above reproach as God’s steward, not self-willed, not quick-tempered, not addicted to wine, not pugnacious, not fond of sordid gain, but hospitable, loving what is good, sensible, just, devout, self-controlled, holding fast the faithful word which is in accordance with the teaching, that he may be able both to exhort in sound doctrine and to refute those who contradict.” (Titus 1:6-9)(NASB)
