Station #2

Describing God

When you get to know someone well, you should be able to describe that person to others… how they present themselves, how they act, how they treat you, how they make you feel, etc.

God is very much a person with clear personality traits or attributes. Over the last few months the Creekside family has been visiting a number of God’s personality traits to know Him better.

When God was introducing Himself to the nation of Israel after setting them free from Egyptian bondage, these are the first descriptive words He chose to describe His personality.

“The LORD, the LORD, the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness, maintaining love to thousands, and forgiving wickedness, rebellion and sin. Yet He does not leave the guilty unpunished; He punishes the children and their children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation.” (Exodus 34:6-7).

The Bible goes on to list and/or describe many more attributes or personality traits of God.

ACTION ITEM: With pen and paper, take a few minutes to write down how you would describe God to someone who doesn’t know anything about Him. You may choose to do this through words, artistic expression or a combination of both. There are some examples before you to spark your thoughts. Add your description of God to the “DESCRIBING GOD” display before you.
