Station #1

Seeking & Finding God

Imagine that your life is like a common paper bag. In order to both survive and thrive you will need to make sure that certain things are continually in your bag, while other unhealthy things are removed from the bag or simply kept out. Jesus stated plainly that He came to earth to give us a full, meaningful life (John 10:10). He also said that the essence of life, both now and beyond this pilgrimage on Earth, is to know God personally (John 17:3). And the good news is that God is personal and wants to be known! Our job is to seek Him. Jeremiah the prophet tells us that knowing God is the most important thing we could ever do with our lives. It’s more important than strength, health, looking good, living into old age, accumulating wealth, being popular, achieving great things or anything else.

“This is what the LORD says: ‘Let not the wise boast of their wisdom or the strong boast of their strength or the rich boast of their riches, but let the one who boasts boast about this: that they have the understanding to know me...’” (Jeremiah 9:23-24)

Stop for a moment, and ask yourself: “Is seeking and finding God the most important thing in my life right now?” PRAYER TIME: In your own words, ask God to ignite a new (or renewed) hunger and thirst in your soul to know Him better. Pray that He so works in your life that nothing competes with Him being your top priority.

“‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you,’ declares the LORD…” (Jeremiah 29:11-14)

Your very presence today at Private Communion means you are desirous to meet with God. These verses from Jeremiah 29 promise that when we seek God with our whole heart, He will let us find Him. He promises to come into our lives and lead us into a glorious future.

ACTION ITEM: With pen and paper, take a moment to write God a note expressing your desire to find Him, understand Him, know Him, love Him and follow Him. If you feel comfortable, leave your note to God on our “SEEKING & FINDING GOD” display before you.

It is important to remember that God is “findable” and He is for you! But knowing God is not a one-time, check-the-box-and-move-on event. God is an extremely complex being, so our knowledge of Him can only grow by degrees as we actively pursue Him. This is a life-long quest which will spill over into eternity!

Once you are ready, you can move on to Station #2.
